How to Poach an Egg


  • Fresh Organic Eggs

  • Pot of water

  • Dash of vinegar

Before you start here are some important tips that will set you up to succeed

  • Make sure your eggs are really fresh

  • Have the water at a steady simmer before you add the eggs

  • Have the eggs at room temperature, this stops the water temperature dropping too much

  • Crack your egg into a ramekin or cup instead of cracking straight into the water

  • Create a gentle whirlpool in the water to help the egg white wrap around the yolk

  • Slowly tip the egg into the water

  • Use a slotted spoon to lift the eggs out once cooked


  • Bring the water with the vinegar added to a steady simmer

  • Gently swirl the water

  • Add the eggs one at a time

  • They will take approximately 2 minutes to cook from room temperature

  • Remove with a slotted spoon and place on kitchen paper to remove excess water
